UK government seize all of Chelsea's owners assets

In the face of the Russian-Ukraine crisis, there have speculations that Russians residing in the United Kingdom could be strip off all their hard earn assets. In view of that, Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich earlier in the month step aside from the club day-today running handing the club to ex-player, Petr Cech and transfer director, Marina Granovskaia and days later put the club on sale.

This action of his to cash in from the club in the face of this crisis, could now be in taters as news coming in Britain has is that the Chelsea owner has been officially sanctioned by UK governments and all his UK assets are now frozen with the sale of the club now on hold.

The statement also reports that "new contracts, player transfers or merchandise sales for Chelsea are not allowed."

What is the implication of the sanctions on Abramovich and Chelsea at large?

The implications of this sanction has more demerits than  merits to club and owner.

What are the merits of the UK government sanctions on Chelsea FC?

The merits of the sanction includes the club can continue to play it matches; which implies that the club will play it remaining matches of the current season both in England and abroad.

The club will still be able receive proceeds from all of its broadcast rights, also the club will see its season ticket holder been able to attend matches in all competition.

What are the demerits of the government sanctions on Chelsea FC?

In the face of this sanction, it means should the transfer window open, the club will not be able to sign new players meaning they will be  now new arrivals at the club in the coming season if this sanctions extends till then.

The club will also not be able negotiate contract extensions for players who have reached the end of their current contracts. This suggests that players such as Anthony Rudiger, Andre Christensen, Emerson Palmerias and Charley Msundona won't be able to get a contract renewal when they see their contract expire by June, 2022.

The sanction also means the club will not be able to sell ticket for the coming season which will definitely hamper it monetary sides and also see Chelsea play games next season without fans at Stamford Bridge.

The sanction have also forced the closure of Chelsea Store which means the club cannot sell any of it merchandise from now till when the sanctions are lifted.

The most hard part of the sanction is that Abramovic can no longer sell the club unless he allows the UK government to take control of the process and he receives no proceeds from the sale.

This sanctions have drawn debates from football fans all over the world with some accusing the UK government of mixing politics with the beautiful game of football, others calling it a hypocritical sanction.

There is no news as to how long the sanction will last but Abramovic, his families and the Blues fans will hope this come to end soon.
